8 Simple DIY Green Cleaners for a Healthy Home

With just a few inexpensive ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen you can mix up healthy versions of all those colourful toxic cleaners you'd otherwise waste your hard earned money on. It's time to clean not contaminate. 

Taken from one of my "go-to" books for keeping a Healthy Home, the New York Times Best Seller, The Healthy Home: Simple Truths to Protect Your Family from Hidden Household Dangers by Dave Wentz & Myron Wentz, PH.D.

DIY Green Cleaner #1 
ALL PURPOSE CLEANER: One Quart of warm water + 4 Tbsps Baking Soda + 1 Tsp white vinegar

DIY Green Cleaner # 2
CARPET STAIN REMOVER: Baking Soda + water OR Club Soda

DIY Green Cleaner #3
WINDOW CLEANER: 3 Cups water + 1/4 cup White vinegar + 1 1/2 Tbsps Lemon Juice

DIY Green Cleaner #4
WOOD POLISH: Refrigerate two parts Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil + 1 part Lemon Juice

DIY Green Cleaner #5
DRAIN CLEANER: Combine 1/2 Cup Baking Soda + 1/2 Cup White Vinegar. Pour Mixture down the drain to dissolve blockages casued by food particles, soap and grease.

DIY Green Cleaner #6
STAINLESS STEAL POLISHER: Use Baking Soda and a soft sided sponge. Toothpaste works also. Hey maybe you have found a new use for your Fluoridated toothpaste ;)

DIY Green Cleaner #7
HEAVY DUTY CLEANER (for large jobs): Add 1 Tsp Baking Soda + 2 Tsps of Liquid Soap to 1 Gallon of hot water. If it's particularly stubborn, add 1 to 2 Tbsps of Borax

DIY Green Cleaner #8
DISINFETANT SPRAY (also works on mildew): Combine 2 cups water. 1/4 cup tea tree oil, 1/4 cup lavender oil. Use as a spray & let dry.
